So, you just got a new flat screen TV and you’re trying to figure out where to put it and the best way to mount it. These days, you have lots of options. It’s not like your grandfather’s television set that wouldn’t fit anywhere except the corner or the living room. You could use flat TV wall mounts. You could even go all out and use flat screen TV lifts. It’s up to you, and there are plenty of choices.

Assuming you don’t want to just set up your new flatscreen TV on a pedestal stand (where it can easily get knocked over and damaged), here are some of the better options for mounting your flat screen TV:

  • Flat TV wall mounts. Here’s the thing with wall mounts: they kind of force you to plan the whole room around the TV. They’re better than leaving your flatscreen TV on a pedestal stand, and they do allow you to place the TV at a good viewing level, height-wise. They’re also inexpensive. That said, there are better options for mounting your flatscreen TV. Still, if you know for sure where you want the TV to go, and are sure you won’t want to rearrange things much, flat TV wall mounts may be for you.
  • Flat TV swivel mounts. Swivel mounts are similar to wall mounts, except that they allow you to turn the television so you can get a fantastic view regardless of which part of the room you’re sitting in. Some models also allow you to tilt your flatscreen television.
  • Ceiling or floor flat screen TV lifts. Ceiling and floor lifts allow your television to be stowed away above the ceiling or below the floor when not in use. This greatly reduces the amount of floor space needed to accommodate your television. In the case of ceiling flat screen TV lifts, it eliminates the need for floor space entirely.
  • Cabinet flat screen lifts. Arguably your best option as far as convenience goes. The cabinet easily fits in wherever you put it as an extra piece of furniture. It keeps your TV safe when not in use, and raises it gently into viewing position when you’re ready to watch it.
