How And Where To Put A TV In Your Bathroom

A TV in the bathroom? Why not?

The more convenient it’s gotten, the more inclined we’ve become to introduce the TV to every room in the house. Well, almost every room. The bathroom remains out of bounds.

One reason is that many people don’t like to spend a lot of time there. They do what they have to do and then leave. Another is that the dampness can wreak havoc on most TVs. Also, in a bathroom, space is at a premium. As one of the smallest rooms in the house, its wall space is equally limited. Even if you wanted to install a TV there, where could you?

But none of those obstacles is insurmountable, including the first one. Start approaching your bathroom like a spa—a spa that features your favorite reality show in perfect view of the tub—and you’ll be more inclined to hangout for a while.

Finding the right TV

When you’re shopping for a TV, go for one that’s intended for bathrooms or outdoor environments—in other words, anywhere it gets wet. Some of waterproof TVs are also fog-resistant, which comes in handy for steamy showers.

Finding the right installation

Finding the right place to install it depends upon what you’ll be doing when you’re watching TV. If you plan to watch while you’re in the tub and you have the wall space, a wall mount flat screen TV will work. If you’d like to be able to watch the news while you’re at the mirror, a corner-mounted TV that swivels is a more appropriate choice. And if you want to be able to watch from any angle, a TV lift that descends from the ceiling and pivots and swivels may be your best bet.

Once you get accustomed to having a TV in the bathroom, you’ll wonder how you did without one. Some folks worry that a TV will make them spend more time in the bathroom.  We’ve found we don’t spend more time in the bathroom with a TV—we just enjoy the time we spend there more.
